DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

AZN is slang for Asian American, popularized in the 1990’s.

This story is based off of my personal experiences, as well as some of my peers’ experiences, growing up as a 1st-generation Asian American.  It’s hard enough to navigate childhood as it is but being a minority presents an extra set of challenges.  I wanted to explore the micro-aggressions that are specific to my diaspora.  At the heart of it, this film is about identity – where does one belong in the world?  It’s also about making mistakes and succumbing to the rigors of adolescence.

Our film team is dedicated to inclusion – supporting women and people of color in front of and behind the camera.
